Funeral Services Held for Laurence Scherado
    Glen Ullin, N.D. (Special) Funeral services were held here for Lawrence Scherado, 57, who died of a heart attack while at work with a threshing crew. Services were held at the Sacred Heart Catholic church and interment was made in the cemetery here.
    Pall bearers were Peter Walaman, Peter Weinhardt, Charles Mueller, Frank Mueller, Mike Bodi and John Sebastian.
    Mr. Scherado was born at Klek, Hungary, in 1885, and came to this country when he was 13 years olld. He came directly to Glen Ullin and had made his home here continuously since that time.
    He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Martin Duppong, Glen Ullin; and five brothers, John and Anton of Glen Ullin; Joe, Aberdeen, S.D.; Tom, Napoleon; and Matt of Spokane.

GRAIN STORAGE CASE IS HEARD

    Judge H. L. Berry of Morton county has completed hearing the case in which Peter Kastner is suing the Andrews Grain Co. for $2,979.86 because of the alleged conversion of grain which had been stored in the Glen Ullin Cooperative Elevator Co.
    According to the Complaint, Anton Wagner, John Schirado, Frank Fitterer, P.G. Kastner and Peter Kastner had put wheat in the elevator and received storage tickets. The Andrews Grain Co. took the grain under claims against the Glen Ullin elevator. The storage tickets were transferred to Peter Kastner who brought suit to recover the money. The wheat had been in storage in 1921.

Last Rites For Mrs. Schirado Held Saturday
    Funeral services were held for Theresa Schirado, 87, Saturday, July 16, 1977, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with Father John Odermann officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandsons. The Scared Heart Christian Mothers escorted her.
    Mrs. Schirado died at Manian Manor Nursing Home July 13th after an illness of several years.
    Mrs. Schirado was born in Austira Hungary, June 22, 1890 the daughter of John Filibeck and Theresa Regal. She came to the U.S. in 1896 to Richardton and later moved to Glen Ullin with her parents and after her marriage to John Schirado, May 12, 1908, farmed on the present Ernest Schirado farm from 1908 to 1957, when she moved to Glen Ullin, and June, 1969, made her home at Marian Manor. Her husband passed away in 1964.
    Survivors include the following children: Mrs. Nick Kastner of Lansing, Mich.; Leo Schirado, Lansing, Mich..; Victor Schirado of Richerland, Wa.; Irvin Schirado, Lansing, Mich.; Mrs. Urban Wehri, Glen Ullin; John Schirado, George Schirado, and Nick Schirado, all of Bismarck; Ernest Schirado, Glen Ullin; 40 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Mrs. Rosa Duppong, Mrs. Julia Schirado, both of Glen Ullin and Mrs. Christina Heinle, Chippewa Fallls, Wisc. Her husband John and 3 sons, Carl, William and Joseph; preceded her in death.
    Dittas Funeral Home of Glen Ullin and Hebron had charge of the arrangements.

Thomas Schirado, Jr., living north of Glen Ullin, had the misfortune of having a couple of his fingers severed in a mowing machine. He was about to dislodge some grass that had become tangled, in the sickle of the machine, when the horses started with the result that one finger on each of Tom’s hand was clipped off at the joint.

Obituary:
    The funeral for Mrs. Thomas (Agatha) Schirado was held Friday in St. Philip catholic chuch. She died Nov. 23 in Fargo.
    Agatha Wold was born Oct. 13, 1906, in Logan County. She married Thomas Schirado Feb. 1, 1933, and the couple lived in Napoleon where he was blacksmith. He died in 1965. Mrs. Schirado went to Casselton in 1966 to become a housekeeper at St. Leo’s Rectory until recently when she lived with a sister at Buxton, N.D.
    Surviving are three sons, Leo, Banning, Calif.’ Thomas, Grants Pass, Ore.; Anton, Burbank, Calif.; seven sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Andrew (Katherine) Thares, and Roy Wold, both Ipswich, S.D.; Jen, Lincoln, Neb; Mrs. Joseph (Maggie) Kuntz, Hillsboro; Mrs. Harold (Theresa) Murphy, Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. L. (Ann) Pulskamp, Buxton; Mrs. Kirk (Tena) Weddle, Omaha, Neb.;Mrs. Art (Clarice) Gottlieb, Anise, Calif; Joe and Adam, both Minneapolis, and six grandchildren.
Concelebrants for the funeral service were Msgr. Peschel of Casselton and Fr. Joseph Mentel, Napoleon. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Jack, George and Cletus Kuntz, Louis and Anton Thares, LeRoy Wolf. Nickisch Funeral Home, Napoleon, was in charge of arrangements.

    Anton was born Sept. 7., 1890, and came to the U.S. with his parents, Thomas and Eva (Schwartz) Schirado, from Kleck, Banat Country, Hungary. He was nine years old when they left Hungary in 1899. Katherine was born April 3, 1903, the daughter of Michiael and Mary (Donczick) Rausch, at Blue Grass, ND.
    Anton and Katharine were married in November 1920 at St. Clemens church, Haymarsh, ND. they made their home on the homestead for the firs four years then moved several miles southwest where they had purchased some land. they had a house and barn built by Steve Filibeck.
    Farming was done with horses until the late 30’s when Anton purchased their first tractor. During harvest, Mother and the children weere out in the fields helping to shock the grain and pitching on the header stacks. When the corn was ripe, Mother and the children picked it and shelled it by hand for seed and feed. Threshing was done with the neighbors helping Mother had to prepare three meals a day consisting of homemade noodle soup. Pork and chicken was butchered as needed for the threshers who ate several lunches each day. The cooking and baking was done on a Monarch coal range, no matter how hot the weather. Coal was mined by hand at thehomestead and hauled with grain wagons. Water for laundry was heated on the range. the clothes were scrubbed on a washboard with homemade soap and then boiled to make them white. Stockings had to be darned and overallls mended by hand. Whenever there was a new arrival in the family, Dad would do the cooking and make the bread, which was very good.
    There was plenty of pork and butchering was a big day. Ten hogs were butchered and the meat was made into sausage, head cheese, cured and smokied for summer use. Mother raised geese and ducks for their meat and feathers or for sale. Chicken and beef was canned and a large garden was planted so there was always plenty of canning done for winter ues.
    The children attended Unon country school about 1 1/2 miles from the farm. We usually walked but during winter storms Dad would haul us with the bobsled and horses. On rainy days he’d take the 1925 Model T car. The younger children attended school in Glen Ullin.
    We usually walked to the neighbors and grandparents, who lived about four miles from us, for visits.
    Anton passed away Aug. 3, 1943; all the children were at home except the oldest son who was in the army. I remember that year we had very nice crops. We worked very hard and late into the nights until harvesting was finished. In 1948 Richard took over the farm; since then he has purchased it from Mother. That year she and the six younger children moved to Glen Ullin. To support her family, Mother did housecleaning, cooking in cafes, washing and ironing for other families. After the children were gone from home, she took in roomers for extra income.
    In 1970 she moved into Harmony Acres and lived there until the fall of 1978 when she entered the Day Dare Center, Elgin, ND. In February 1979 she was transferred to the St. Alexius Hospital until June when she entered the Baptist Home. In May of 1981 she had both legs amputated but keeps herself busy crocheting for her children.
    Anton and Katharine were blessed with 11 children: Harry married Hollis Herman of Beulah and they have two children; Richard; Katharine; Michael; Geneva married Aldon Karlin and they have two children and live in Spokane, WA; Magdallena married James Olson (deceased 1982), they have two children and make their home in Seattle, WA; Tony married Lorraine Hellman and they have eight children, two deceased; Pearl married Otto Voegele and they have two children; Thomas; Joan married Bob Kendig and they have one child.

    Anton Schirado, 52, Glen Ullin, Farmer, died at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 3, at his home. Funeral services were held at Haymarsh in the St. Clemens Catholic church, Thursday, Aug. 5th with Fr. Ambrose officiating. Burial was made at the Haymarsh Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Wilhelm, Frank Wiljelm, Charles Miller, Frank Miller, Peter Weinhardt, and Mike Bode.
    Anton was born at Klek, Hungary in 1890 and came to the United States at the age of 8 years with his parents. They lived on a homestead 14 miles of Glen Ullin. He married Katherine Rausch and purchased the homestead and lived there until his death.
    He is survived by his wife and 11 children: Sgt. Harry Schirado stationed at Camp Shelby, Mississipi, and at home Richard, Katie, Mike, Genie, Lena, Anton Jr., Pearl, Lester, Clinton, and JoAnn. One sister Mrs. Martin Duppong and five brothers survive him, John of Blue Grass, Tom of Napoleon, ND and Joe of Aberdeen, SD and Matt of Kennewick, Wa. One brother, Lawrence, died a year and a half ago.

 Funeral services were held for Katie Schirado, 81, Glen Ullin, August 20th 1984 at the Baptist Home Chapel in Bismarck at 2:30 pm., CST with Rev. Orbille H. Meth officiating. Burial was in the Glen Ullin Cemetery. Her sons were pallbearers. Mrs. Schirado died at the Baptist Home on Aug. 17th. She ahd been ill for 5 years.
    Mrs. Schirado was born in the Blue Grass area northeast of Glen Ullin on April 3, 1903, the daughter of Mike Rausch and Mary Danczk. After her marriage to Anton Schirado on Nov. 20th, 1910, at the Haymarsh Church northwest of Glen Ullin, she farmed with her husband 14 miles north of Glen Ullin and in 1948 came to Glen Ullin and lived there until 1979 when she entered the Baptist Home in Bismarck. Mr. Schirado died on Aug. 3, 1943.
    Survivors include the following children: Harry, Richard, Mike, Tony, and Thomas Schirado of Glen Ullin; Lester Schirado, Mandan; Katherine Hoerner and Pearl Voegele of Wa. and Joan Kendig, Sterling, Va. Also 36 grandchildren and 31 great gandchildren. 2 brothers, Mike Rausch, Glen Ullin, and John Rausch, Stanton; 3 sisters, Helen Lahren, Mandan, ND; Minnie and Rose Rausch of St. Paul, Mn. Her parents, husband and 2 sisters preceded her in death.
    Dittus Funeral Home of Glen Ullin and Hebron had charge of the arrangements.

    Miss Julia Fillibeck daughter of Mrs. Theresa Filibeck of this city and Mathias schirado, son of Tos Schirado also of GlenUllin, were united in marriage at the Sacred Heart Church last Tuesday morning. The ceremony being performed by the Rev. Father Mathew in the prsence of the near relatives and a few friends of the contracting parties.The young couple were attended by Miss Theresia Dauratschek and Anton Schirado.
    After the ceremonies at the church the birdal party drove out to the farm of her sister, Mr. and Mrs. John Schirqado north of Glen Ullin, where a wedding dinner was served and the remainder of the day spent at dancing.
    The newly weds are well and favorable known in Glen Ullin and have a large circle of friends, all of whom will extend hearty congratulations They will make their home on the Thos Schirado farm north of the city.

In 1920, Math and Julia were residing with her mother Theresa Filibeck at Glen Ullen.

GLEN ULLIN -- Julia Schirado, 96, Glen Ullin, died March 22, 1998, in a Glen Ullin nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Claude Seeberger officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Glen Ullin.
    Visitation will be after 4 p.m. MST today at the church, where a prayer service and rosary will be said at 7 MST tonight at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin.
    Julia was born on April 10, 1901, in rural Glen Ullin, the daughter of John II and Theresa (Regel) Filibeck. The family moved into town when she was young. She was educated in Glen Ullin. She married Matt Schirado on Jan. 28, 1919, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin. Following their marriage, they farmed until 1935, when they moved into Glen Ullin. In 1942, they moved to Washington to work. In 1956, they returned to Glen Ullin, where Julia was the site manager and cook for the meals on wheels program. She also catered weddings and other celebrations. Matt died on Sept. 25, 1967. In May of 1992, she entered the Marian manor Nursing Home in Glen Ullin, where she has since resided.
    She enjoyed gardening and flowers, and was a member of the kitchen band and enjoyed playing cards. She was a member of Glen Ullin Senior Citizens, 11 years as the secretary.
    She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Matthew; and four brothers and four sisters. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin)
