19915. Dea. Nathaniel Jones. Born on 5 Apr 1707 in Weston, MA.35 Nathaniel died in Leicester, MA, on 15 Aug 1803; he was 96. Occupation: Farmer.

Nathaniel first married Hannah King; second Mary (Robinson) Wakefield, widow of Joseph Wakefield; third Elizabeth Butler; fourth Mary (Deland) Howe, widow of Ebenezer Howe; and fifth Eleanor Woodward.

Nathaniel lived in Sutton where he belonged to the Sutton Baptist Church, in Leicester by 1742, and in Charlton by 1758. He filed a certificate with others at Charlton in 1761 to scure exemption from paying rates for the support of the Charlton church.245 At that time taxes were collected to support the state church even from citizens of the town who where members of that church.

Nathaniel’s will, dated 1795 mentioned his children Enos, Asa, Eli, Phinehas, Mary Streeter, Hannah, and Eleanor.245

WILL OF NATHANIEL JONES, JR. June 12, 1788
    In the name of God Amen I Nathaniel Jones of Charleton in the County of Worcester and State of Massachusetts Bay yeoman, being in a comfortable measure of health and or a perfect sound disposing mind and memory thanks be given to God their for calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do/make and ordain this my last will and testament that my sould into the hands of God that gave it and my body I manner at the discretion of my Executor hereafter mentioned nothing doubting but at the General Resurection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God: and as touching such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with in this live I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.
    First my will is that all my just debts and funeral charges be paid out of my estate; Second I give and bequeath to Eloner my dear and loving wife one third part of all my indoor movables of such as she shall choos to be at her own disposal and I likewise will that my sd wife should be comfortable and Honourabley supported out of my estate by my Executor, in like manner that is to keep her a good cow and a hors sumer and winter for her use the hors to be kept well shod fit for use and my meening is that my sd wife should have her choice of all my cows to be for her use after my dicease. my will is that my Executor shall take particular care of my sd wife both in sickness and health that is to see that she has a comfortable support if she should not be able to take care of her self in any measure my will is that my Executor does deliver to my sd wife yearly nine score of good pork and eighty weight of good beef and two barels of sider and one bushel of malt ten pounds of good sheeps wool and ten pounds of good flax well dressed and also three pounds twelve shillings to be paid her yearly in money by my Executor—for necessary charges I likewise give to my sd wife a cumfortable room in the hous and likewise Liberty of the Cellar and likewise as many apples as she needs for her use.
    3 ly my will is that the whole of my Estate both real and personal including all my farming tools—excepting that part that is hereafter mentioned be divided amongst all my children in the following manner that is to say Enos and Asa Eli and Phenehas—my four sons—and mary Streeter Hannah and Ellinor my three daughters in such a manner that my four sones above named should have each of them two shares to each of my daughters one share—the Exception above mentioned is that what moneymy two Sons Enos and Asa and my son in law Daniel Streeter the husband of my sd daughter Mary owe to my Estate should be divided amongs them in like manner that is in the same proportion of my real and personal estate my two sons two shareseach of them and my Daughter Streeter one share.
    my will and meaning is that my two Sons Enos and Asa and daughter Streeter that which I have given them heretofore shall be reckned to them as so much of their portion or part of my estate and my other Children to be made equail to what theyhave receved before they come to shear with the above mentioned sums whis is to be divided as above mentioned is forty five pounds ten shillings.
    4 ly I likewise constitute & appoint my well beloved son Eli Jones my soul Executor to this my Last Will & Testament and hereby utterly Revoke Disalow & Disanul all and every former Will & Testament by me in any wise heretofore Named ratifyingand confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament in Testimony hereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this tenth day of May & in the year of our Lord One thousand seven Hundred and Eighty one.

Mary’s first husband’s mother, Rebecca (Littlefield) Wakefield, married in 1717 William King as his second wife. William’s daughter, Hannah King, was Mary’s second husband Nathanial Jones’ first wife.

On 22 Oct 1752 (int.) when Nathaniel was 45, he third married Elizabeth Butler in Leicester, MA.511 Elizabeth died bef Feb 1755.

From the Leicester vital records:511 Nathaniel Jones and Elisabeth Butler, both of the Country Gore, intention 22 Oct 1752.

The Country Gore, or County Gore, was a name for a region between towns that was incorporated into Charlton when it was formed in 1755. That part of Charlton is now called the Charlton Northside, and it borders on Spencer and Leicester.

There were no Butler families in Leicester, Charlton, or Oxford in the 1700s.

On 27 Feb 1755 when Nathaniel was 47, he fourth married Mary Deland, daughter of Paul Deland (16 Oct 1699-6 Feb 1796) & Phebe Green (16 Mar 1706/7-25 Mar 1787), in Brookfield, MA.512 Born on 16 Jul 1730 in Brookfield, MA.512 Mary died bef Jun 1758.

Mary first married Ebenezer Howe, second Nathaniel Jones as his fourth wife.

19916. Capt. Stephen Jones. Born on 17 Aug 1709 in Weston, MA.35 Stephen was baptized on 1 Jan 1710.108 Stephen died on 7 Jan 1746; he was 36.35

From Bond’s Watertown Genealogies:35
    Stephen settled in Falmouth, near his brother Phinehas, with whom he was connected in business. He enlisted as a Captain in Col. Noble’s regiment for an expedition against Quebec in 1746, but the ships and troops from England did not arrive, which defeated the project, and Col. Noble was ordered with his regiment to Minus, now Horton, in Nova Scoiia. to keep the neutral French, who lived there, in subjection. The French still held a fort at Cumberland Bay. A considerable detachment was sent from that fort, more than a hundred miles, to attack Col. Noble's party by surprise, in a heavy snow-storm, in the night of Jan. 7, 1746. The enemy got very near the Col’s, quarters, where he and most of the officers were, before they were discovered by the sentinel at the door, by reason of the violence of the storm. The sentinel gave the alarm and fled. Capt. Jones immediately met the enemy at the door, and was killed. They entered the house and killed some of the officers before they were out of bed. Col. Noble was among the slain. The main body of the force, at some distance from the Col’s, quarters, soon after capitulated. Capt. Jones left a wid., 2 sons, and 2 drs.

James Jones (7920) (4 Sep 1679-14 Sep 1770) & Sarah Moore (ca 1684-28 Sep 1774), in Weston, MA.35 Born on 17 Dec 1710 in Weston, MA.35 Marriage intention published on 29 Dec 1734 at Falmouth, Cumberland Co., ME. Stephen Jones of Falmouth & Lydia Jones of Weston.

Stephen and Lydia were first cousins; their fathers were brothers.

19917. Noah Jones. Born on 26 Nov 1711 in Weston, MA.35 Noah was baptized on 2 Dec 1711.108 Noah died in Worcester, MA, on 6 Jul 1781; he was 69. Buried in Old Burial Ground on the Common.

Noah was first keeper of the Jones tavern beyond New Worcester from 1760 to 1781. He was lieutenant in a detachment of men from Col. John Chandler's regiment, which marched from Worcester on the alarm for the relief of Fort William Henry, 1757.

Noah married Rebecca Heywood (30829) , daughter of Dea. Daniel Heywood (16669) (15 Apr 1694-12 Apr 1773) & Hannah Ward (22422) (ca 1696-24 Feb 1760). Born on 25 Jul 1725 in Worcester, MA. Rebecca died in Worcester, MA, on 11 Jan 1771; she was 45. Buried in Old Burial Ground on the Common.

On 6 Sep 1763 when Jonas was 48, he married Abigail Hartwell (41737) , daughter of Ephraim Hartwell (14 Jan 1706/7-7 May 1793) & Elizabeth Heywood (30828) (3 Jun 1714-), in Lincoln, MA. Born on 5 Jun 1744 in Concord, MA. Abigail died in Shrewsbury, MA, on 8 Mar 1809; she was 64.
