Josiah was born Josiah Stover, but his name changed to Stafford. On 11 Apr 1699 Josiah and Sarah were before the Bristol Court for fornification before marriage, but the child not yet being born, the case was continued. In the case, she is described as ‘Sarah Lake, now the wife of Josiah Stafford.’

Will abstract. Dated 6 Jan 1742, mentions wife Sarah, eldest son Joseph Stafford, Joseph’s eight sisters, my daughters Sarah, Elizabeth, Bethiah, Bathsheba, Phebe, Priscill, Hannah, and Patience, son David Stafford, son Abraham Stafford, daughter Priscilla Lowden.248

ca 1698 Josiah married Sarah Lake (8030) , daughter of David Lake (2997) (ca 1646-aft 1709) & Sarah Earle (3861) (ca 1647-1690), in Tiverton, MA (now RI).111 Born on 10 May 1678 in Tiverton, MA (now RI).295 Sarah died in Tiverton, RI, on 10 May 1754; she was 76.345
