The lab is currently set up to allow for remote SSH connections. SSH allows users to control the command line from anywhere. This is usefull for submitting and working on your work.
In order to remotely conect to the lab you will need to install an SSH client. We recommend Putty which can be downloaded here http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/.
Mac OS X / LinuxYou should already have SSH available to you. At the command line. You can access the command line from the terminal application.
ssh email@example.com uname is your lab user name. To view graphical applications, start ssh with
ssh -X firstname.lastname@example.org, where uname is your lab user name. After you've been logged in, try starting an application (ex. gedit). If you find a graphical application isn't working through the -X flag, please contact an administrator to let us know and get a tip for a command-line alternative.
